Jay Trehy
Since he joined the bar, Jay has always been a trial lawyer. He has litigated cases in state courts across North Carolina and in federal courts in North and South Carolina. For his work as a trial lawyer, Jay has been honored with the Martindale-Hubbell AV rating, the highest professional rating a lawyer can receive. He is also listed in Best Lawyers in America and in N.C. Super Lawyers.
Jay began his legal career as an assistant public defender in Fayetteville, North Carolina. After developing his trial skills there, Jay switched his focus to civil cases, beginning in 1986 with a law firm in Fayetteville. He continued that focus when he joined Twiggs, Beskind, Strickland & Rabenau in 1988.

Jay represents severely injured clients and families of those who have lost loved ones through the negligence of others. He also stands up for consumers who have been victimized by their health, disability, and life insurance companies or by their ERISA plans.
He focuses on cases involving defective products such as SUVs, automobiles, riding mowers, power tools, LP gas tanks, boilers and water heaters, in addition to:
- Crashes of tractor-trailers, buses, and cars
- Electrocutions, fires, and explosions
- Crane and other workplace accidents
- Dangerous structures or conditions on property.

At the University of North Carolina, Jay participated in the trial advocacy and clinical legal education programs. As an undergraduate student, Jay was president of the Duke’s Old Trinity Club. He played rugby for Duke, UNC, and the North Carolina Select Side.
