Jesse H. Rigsby, IV

Jesse H. Rigsby, IV (“Jess”), a partner at Twiggs Strickland & Rabenau, has had eight years of experience successfully representing clients injured or damaged by the carelessness or misconduct of others. Jess concentrates his practice on serious personal injury, premises liability, wrongful death, and business litigation. Jess was selected by his peers as a North Carolina Super Lawyers "Rising Star" in 2014 and again in 2015, an honor limited each year to 2.5% of North Carolina lawyers.

Jess received his law degree in 2006 from Duke University School of Law, where he graduated with high honors and was selected to the Order of the Coif, an honor open only to those who graduated in the top ten percent of their law school class. While at Duke Law, Jess also worked as a research assistant for a leading scholar and expert on structured finance and asset securitization.

Jess’s undergraduate degree is from Vanderbilt University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science (with a minor in Philosophy). At Vanderbilt, Jess graduate magna cum laude and was designated a Vanderbilt College Scholar, elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and became a member of the Pi Sigma Alpha political science honors society. Jess also earned a Master of Arts degree in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago.

Jess joined the firm in 2006 after graduating from Duke Law School. Jess took some time away from the firm in 2014 to move to Lund, Sweden with his family to pursue a two-year Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree at Lund University, a well-regarded Scandinavian university founded in 1666. Jess also performed legal and business development work for part of this time for a Swedish life sciences, biotech, and pharmaceutical group headquartered in Lund. In June 2016, Jess earned his LL.M. in European Business Law (Juris masterexamen i Europeisk handelsrätt) from Lund University with the highest grade possible in every class, and was chosen by the law faculty to give the student speech on behalf of the European Business Law Master’s Program at graduation. Jess returned to North Carolina in July 2016 with renewed appreciation for the state, its legal system, and its people.

As a side-note, before heading to Sweden, Jess taught himself Swedish completely from scratch without any outside help or instruction by reading “Carl Hamilton” Cold War spy novels and other books. While in Sweden Jess competed on Swedish national television – in Swedish – on the trivia quiz show Vem vet mest? (translation: “Who Knows the Most?”) – and came in first place on an episode after beating the other seven (Swedish) contestants!
